Miriam's Well
Miriam's Well

This piece was created for and exhibited at the "Freedom Imagined, Freedom Lived," Passover exhibit at Imajewnation Museum in Saint Louis and will be a part of a published volume. I was asked to paint something related to a ritual object used at the Passover Seder. I chose the newly instituted Miriam's Well, a glass filled with water to correspond with the Midrashic legend of Miriam supplying the people with water throughout the sojourn in the desert. I started by painting the actual glass itself and then Miriam started dancing out of it, complete with her trademark tambourine, which she bore as she led the people in a celebration in the Song of the Sea.
